1955-1960, 1:18. Handcrafted mass production. When the BMW 503 was launched in tandem with the 507 at the IAA Frankfort Motor Show, it was a sensation for press and public alike. Nobody expected this kind of achievement from BMW. The elegant touring sports car - like the BMW 507 designed by Albrecht Graf Goertz - was designed in small batches for the "top 10,000", tailormade to their individual requirements. Food manufacture Rudolf Oetker and Yugoslav premier Jozip Broz Tito were among the VIPs owning one of these vehicles. Each car was a one-off model with no two cars being identical. Alloy bodywork, electric window controls and - in the convertible - an innovative power-operated top combined with the outstanding V8 aluminum engine to give proud owners superlative motoring culture.
